Replying to Leith Forrest’s suggestion on FIVEAA that Sam Powell-Pepper “surely” wins the AFL rising star award this year, Port Adelaide assistant Brendon Lade had only one word.
“Yes,” Lade said on Sunday… before admitting he was biased.
“We’re biased. We’re at Port Adelaide and we think he’s had a great year and what he’s done’s been unbelievable — the contested possessions, the way he takes on players, and players that have played for a long time as well.
“That’s not taking anything away from [Hawk] Ryan Burton. He’s class and has had a few good games as well, but we just think Powell-Pepper’s been more consistent.
“And playing in the midfield is a really hard spot to cement your spot and to play well in.”
