Caroline Wilson says there is a feeling among some clubs that the AFL is going back to “the days of the VFL” following a deal to keep the Grand Final at the MCG for the next 40 years.

“No one wants to come out and say it because nobody wants to be seen to be raining on Gillon McLachlan’s parade,” Caro has told FIVEAA. “It was a very good deal, it’s very rare for any government to give so much money to a privately owned stadium.”

“A few clubs have said to me they feel as though they’re going back to the days of the VFL and it felt like a VFL announcement.

“It does seem to be that this has been forced onto the non-Victorian clubs and they feel it’s a very long term deal. I don’t think Gillon McLachlan wanted to do it, but I think to get the rest of the deal over the line he had to agree to it.”
