Adelaide Crows coach Don Pyke questioned the fairness of the long-term MCG Grand Final deal following Adelaide’s loss to Richmond last year, reports Caroline Wilson.

The Crows coach apparently “pushed for an AFL review of the finals system”.

According to Caro:

“Pyke is understood to have approached the AFL Coaches Association boss Mark Brayshaw after top-placed Adelaide lost to MCG home team Richmond in a move that has reignited Sydney’s push for a best-of-three grand final structure…

“While the MCG holds a contractual right to host the AFL grand final for the next four decades, the widespread view among the non-Victorian clubs is the competition should work to ensure a fairer system across the board…

“Cognisant of the lengthy MCG contract — a deal extended in April through until 2057 — and determined not to appear a sore loser, Pyke still remains convinced that the system is unfair. He told Brayshaw he supports the best-of-three grand finals still championed by [Sydney CEO David] Ireland.”
