Eddie McGuire has stood down as Collingwood president following the fallout from the club’s report into racism.
McGuire was due finish his time as Collingwood president at the end of the 2021 season.
But in Collingwood FC live stream on Tuesday he said:
“I try my best and I don’t always get it right. But I don’t stop trying. Today, effective immediately, I step down as president of the Collingwood Football Club.”
Eddie on his plans to stay until year’s end:
“I don’t think that is now tenable or fair for the club or the community. I have become a lightning rod for vitriol and made it hard for the club to move forward with its plans. Our sponsors are also under pressure.”
