Geelong coach Chris Scott has gone out of his way to say he wants Steven Motlop to remain a Cat.

Motlop had been linked during the year to a couple of rival clubs — including Port Adelaide — but on Monday night Scott said:

“There are people at our club that should be the spokesperson even ahead of me, but this is one of the rare occasions I’ll talk about what I want,” he said on Fox Footy.

“I sincerely hope he’s a Geelong player next year … I’m not sure how much more emphatic I can be than that. And Steve knows that.”

Meanwhile Channel 7’s Sam McClure said Motlop could remain a Cat — if he took a pay cut.

“The Cats are as interested to know what Steven Motlop wants to do as they are with him,” Scoop said on Tuesday.

“He has played a couple of good finals and he’s on a big pay packet which has come to an end of a four-year-deal. They don’t want to pay him as much, but I do think there is a desire from Geelong to keep Motlop… at the right price.”
