Kane Cornes says he’ll give former Port Adelaide teammate Damien Hardwick “a call” after the Tigers coach took aim at him over a comment made on social media.

Kane fired off a tweet during Richmond’s loss to St Kilda, saying the Tigers had got ahead of themselves.

Asked after the game about the tweet, Hardwick didn’t hold back.

“Seriously, I’d love to see Kane, I’d really love to see Kane,” Hardwick said.

“That’s his job, he’s there to write s**t comments.”

Kane told The Advertiser on Sunday: “No one enjoys conflict. It’s not nice to hear. So I will give Damien a call.”

Geelong premiership star Cam Mooney told Leith Forrest that he believed Hardwick’s outburst was “just a frustrated coach”.

“I don’t think Cornesy has got anything to apologise for,” he said.

“He’s a commentator. He’s called it how he saw it and you know what he’s probably right they probably did get a bit ahead of themselves.

“I just think that was a frustrated coach having a dig at somebody. I wouldn’t worry too much about that if I was Cornesy.

“I think Kane’s been excellent since he’s come into the media. He’s got a strong opinion and you’re going to get whacked when you have an opinion.

“People don’t like what you’ve got to say sometimes. I guarantee you Cornesy’ll always have a job because he’s got that strong opinion and that’s what you need to have.”
