After he outpointed dominant AFL big man Todd Goldstein in Port Adelaide’s 28-point win over North on Saturday, there’s talk Jackson Trengove is now the Power’s number one ruckman.
Trengove has been pinch-hitting in the ruck since Matt Lobbe was injured.
“We know Lobbes is back for us in the SANFL for the Magpies and that is exciting, but we couldn’t have asked any more of Jacko,” coach Ken Hinkley said after the game.
“I reckon he will want to stay in the ruck.”
When he spoke to FIVEAA after the game, Trengove said he had put an uncharacteristic amount of work into studying Goldstein.
LISTEN TO JACKSON TRENGOVE:
“I don’t sort of sit into the study too much, but obviously Goldstein being such a dominant ruckman I’ve been doing a fair bit of work,” Jacko said.
“It’s not just a jumping game with the ruck anymore. It’s about learning what they’re really good at and trying to stop them, and then obviously when the ball hits the ground, to hunt and get the ball.
“It’s pleasing to get on the end of a few kicks and touches today and obviously to get the win was more pleasing,” he said.
