Ollie Wines tells David and Will about comments made in the Melbourne media that “infuriated” him before his Rd 1 best on ground performance.
“I try to stay away from reading as much media, stay off Twitter, stay off those things,” Ollie said on FIVEAA breakfast. “But there were a couple of articles I did catch going into Rd 1 that really infuriated me.”
LISTEN HERE:
“It was a news report,” Ollie said, “Tim Watson had some things to say about our midfield and then a few top eight predictions.”
“They’re the experts and they’re right to have the opinion, [but] I don’t necessarily believe with them.”
During the pre-season Watson said Port Adelaide was one of the worst teams in the competition:
“They had this one thing that probably set themselves apart from the rest of the competition (in 2014) and that was their running capacity and their belief they could outrun everybody,” Tim said on Melbourne radio.
“That was set up from their work deep in their backline. Now they’re one of the worst sides in the competition at being able to do that.
“They’re one of the worst sides in the competition at being able to hit targets. And they’re one of the worst sides in the competition at being able to clear the ball from stoppages.”
Ollie said on Friday Port was happy to be underrated by the media…
“I think most of the boys would try to block it out a fair bit, but we’re also pretty spurred on by that sense of motivation off the articles that you occasionally do see.
“We’re happy for the external opinions to rate us low and not give us much of a chance, but obviously internally we trust each other.
“We trust what we’ve done for the last six months and what we’re building towards. Only time will tell.”
