Police would be allowed to search the vehicles of drivers who test positive for drugs under a new plan put forward by Labor’s police spokesman Lee Odenwalder.

According to The Advertiser:

“This is a simple measure to give police another tool to combat the spread of drugs, particularly ice, in our community,” Mr Odenwalder said.

“It ensures that prosecutions for possession or trafficking do not fail on the basis that the search was not reasonable.”

Under existing law police are unable to search cars based on a positive test.
