Former Crow turned Cat Patrick Dangerfield has added his two cents as questions are asked about the toughness of Adelaide’s midfield.

“I think the instigator of that has been Scotty Thompson,” Danger told Talking Footy on Monday night. “He’s had a few shoulder problems throughout the pre-season, hasn’t played any football this year.”
“He — for me — is the real physical instigator and spiritual leader of that midfield. Perhaps that could be an avenue to look at in the second half of the year…
“With Rory [Sloane] over the past few weeks, he’s obviously been the opposition’s number one — that’s who you go to. He for mine is the one that organises the midfield and makes sure everyone’s in the right spot, and then goes about getting the ball…
“If you have Scotty Thompson there then you have got both of them that can help out, organise and make sure everyone’s in the right position, then you work off each other and help win the ball.”
Earlier, AFL great Wayne Carey said the Crows were not tough enough to win the flag this year.
“They’re not an overly aggressive side,” he said. “I think it matters. If you want to win a premiership you have to show some real grunt, some real fight. I think at time this year they’ve lacked that real physicality.”
“In big moments, they have let themselves down.”
Tim Watson agreed.
“Look at the sides that have won the flags in more recent times. Hawthorn — they’re a really tough, hard, gnarly side. The Sydney Swans… the Bulldogs last year and Geelong obviously through that period of time where they dominated the competition.
“They talked about how skilful they were, but all those sides were really hard, physical sides. I don’t think we’ve seen enough of that from Adelaide.
“They’re not hard enough and aggressive enough consistently enough to be a contender right now.”
