Port Adelaide 300-gamer Kane Cornes says the club’s most senior players failed to show on-field leadership on multiple occasions in the final moments of the club’s loss to West Coast on Saturday.

“Port Adelaide’s performance against West Coast on Saturday night was another example why leadership groups are the most overrated concept in the modern game,” Kane writes for The Advertiser.

“With Dixon off injured in the last quarter and Hartlett unavailable there were five members of the leadership group that failed in the dying stages of Saturday’s game.”

In his article Kane calls out Travis Boak, Ollie Wines, Brad Ebert, Tom Jonas and Tom Rockliff for overseeing at least four crucial and preventable errors in the dying minutes of the game.

“This series of leadership fails will again be dissected in detail at the leadership meeting at Alberton today.

“But what’s the value of talk, if there is no action when it matters most?”
