Grammy winner Rick Springfield says his classic song ‘Jessie’s Girl’ originally had a different name.

Speaking with Leith Forrest on FIVEAA Rick revealed it took a couple of attempts to finally land on the now iconic title.
It turns out the original inspiration for the song was actually a guy called Gary:
“It would never have been Gary’s Girl, but his name was Gary,” said Rick. “I still have the original sheet I wrote the song on. I never wrote Gary… I thought, no, that doesn’t work. So I tried Randy’s Girl.”
“I have Randy’s Girl written on the top of the paper and then crossed out and Jessie’s Girl is written under it. Jessie’s Girl sang better to me.
“It’s all about how it serves the song, and Gary wouldn’t have served the song neither – would’ve Randy.”
