Passionate South Australian and FIVEAA’s own Stephen Rowe says grabs from an interstate radio interview where he appeared to praise WA over SA were taken out of context and are an audacious “stitch up”…

A clip in which Rowey told Perth’s 6PR “if I had a choice I would be home with my family in WA – I adore WA” were replayed to Rowey on FIVEAA Breakfast, where the great man was given a chance to explain himself:

“Hang on, this is a stitch up. That’s just one part of it. That’s how I started it, but then I absolutely launched,” he said.

“I do miss my parents, they’re in their 80s… I grew up in in WA. I was born in South Australia, a proud South Australian, a parochial South Australia – I don’t need to defend myself.

“If you heard the interview on 6PR in its entirety: SA 1, WA nil. It’s a stitch up. Don’t make me pick between my family and my state that I love, South Australia. I think that’s very unfair and poor journalism on your behalf…

“I apologise if I offended anyone. I do love South Australia, married a South Australian girl, born here, Norwood is my club. Do I have to give it anymore bona fides? I love fishing, the King George, the whiting, the red wine, the women, the people, our football clubs – probably not Port.”
