South Australia will no longer give overseas visitors travel exemptions on compassionate grounds until problems are “ironed out” after a British woman brought coronavirus into the state this week while travelling to visit a terminally ill relative.

In comments reported by The Advertiser on Thursday, Premier Steven Marshall said:

“We need a robust and airtight system before we let any more people in from overseas…

“Clearly the airline didn’t know and we didn’t have police ready to implement our system.

“There has clearly been an administrative error in SA Health.

“I’ve spoken to the Police Commissioner and made it clear no further exemptions will be granted until this is ironed out.”

That ban only applies to international arrivals.
