A severe weather warning has been issued for parts of South Australia as an intense low pressure weather system moves across the state.

The Bureau of Meteorology says wind gusts of more than 90km/h are possible over the west coast and lower Eyre Peninsula with the centres most likely to be affected including Port Lincoln, Ceduna, Wudinna, Elliston, Cleve and Nullarbor.

The State Emergency Service has activated its State Control Centre to monitor conditions, with up to 15 millimetres of rain expected over Adelaide.

The SES advises that people should:

  • Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
  • Secure or put away loose items around your property
  • Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
