A 17-year-old Surf Lifesaver had his surf ski bitten by a shark at Glenelg on Tuesday evening.
According to Surf Life Saving SA, a shark attacked the ski while a group of five Glenelg members were 1-1.5km off Glenelg Beach at about 6pm.
SLSSA’s Daniel Willetts says:
“Whilst the incident would no doubt have been quite scary for the members involved, it’s important to remember that they were paddling approximately 1 to 1.5km offshore, and that sharks are more common in deep water environments…
“Stay vigilant. If you do hear the shark alarm, immediately but calmly evacuate the water and do not re-enter until you are advised to do so.”
