The Bureau of Meteorology has released a severe weather warning for damaging winds impacting Mount Lofty Ranges, Kangaroo Island and parts of Adelaide Metropolitan, Murraylands and Upper South East districts.

According to the BOM:

A low pressure system in the Southern Ocean will move north to northeastwards today and is forecast to be centred near Mount Gambier on Friday evening.

Damaging south to southwesterly winds, averaging 50-70 km/h about exposed coasts, with gusts of 90-110 km/h mostly with showers and thunderstorms, are forecast to develop over the warning area later this afternoon and evening.

Winds are expected to gradually ease early Saturday morning.

Locations which may be affected include Adelaide, Murray Bridge, Kingscote, Victor Harbor, Meningie and Coonalpyn.

Severe weather is no longer occurring in the Yorke Peninsula district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should: 

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees; 

* Secure or put away loose items around your property. 

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.
