The Adelaide Crows have received support in the bid to re-sign Jake Lever from a surprising source — North Melbourne coach Brad Scott.
“He’s a brilliant player,” Brad told Rowey and Bicks on FIVEAA — but said he hoped Lever stays put.
“Jake was a terrific pick for the Adelaide Crows. I thought they picked really well at the draft that year… Jake was coming off a knee reconstruction and hadn’t played the previous year.
“I do like to see a young player like that — who Adelaide have clearly invested a lot in — I would really like to see him stay at his club, because Adelaide deserve to keep him.”
But that doesn’t mean they will, says Scott:
“The market at the moment is getting reasonably inflated… there’s a lot of speculation in the media at the moment, and we could easily be accused of fuelling that inflation.
“In [North Melbourne’s] situation, we’re able to manage our list where we’re potentially in the market for some different players. But you also know that if you spend up on one or two particularly players, it may come back to bite you in future years.”
