Port Adelaide champ and FIVEAA’s own Tim Ginever says the club would leave the SANFL with his blessing.

The AFL this week confirmed PAFC had made an approach about joining a national second tier comp – possible as early as 2025.

Speaking on the FIVEAA sports show, Timmy G said it was surprise when the club remained in the SANFL when it entered the AFL in the 90s:

“That was all about being elevated into the next competition – it wasn’t about staying in the AFL… we had no inkling that we were going to still be in SANFL. It was this massive shock when they came to us… it was a bit mind-boggling as to what happened…

“For mine, go into the AFL competition as the second tier and Port Adelaide people like myself have to accept that that’s what we bid for when we got the second license.

“That’s what you played for, that’s what you wanted, that’s what you’ve got.”
