Sky News has said sorry to SA Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.

The station included derogatory comments made about her by senator David Leyonhjelm in a crawl at the bottom of the screen during the The Outsiders program over the weekend.

According to The Australian, the comments included quotes made in Parliament by Leyonhjelm that “Sarah Hanson-Young is known for liking men. The rumours about her in parliament are well known”.

Sky News later apologised for the comments and advised a producer had been suspended.

“Sky News wishes to apologise to Senator @sarahinthesen8 for broadcasting appalling comments by Senator @DavidLeyonhjelm earlier today, and for highlighting them in an on-screen strap. A producer has been suspended pending an internal investigation,” Sky News wrote on Twitter.

The latest controversy came after senator Hanson-Young revealed Mr Leyonhjelm had told her to “stop shagging men”.
