Composer Danny Elfman thought no one would ever hear it.
“The easiest thing I’ve ever done in my life,” Danny told Will Goodings on FIVEAA about the cartoon’s opening theme music. “It’s ironic that’s what I’m most famous for.”
Danny said at first he wasn’t sure he was the right person to write it.
“If you want something contemporary, I’m the wrong guy. If you want something crazy retro, then I’m the right guy,” Danny told The Simpsons creator Matt Groening.
Matt was keen and amazingly, Danny had written the music before he even arrived home from their meeting.
“I wrote it in my head in the car in the way home, ran down to my studio before I could forget it, recorded the whole thing and sent it to Matt.
“And the next day he said, Yep, that’s it.”
“I did it for fun,” Danny said. “I didn’t expect anybody to see The Simpsons. I thought it would be around for one month and gone forever.”
