Patti Newton has spoken outside hospital just hours after news broke her husband had his leg amputated.
Aussie TV legend Bert Newton, 82, has been battling a serious health problem stemming from an infected toe since before Christmas and was given a “life or death decision”.
In comments reported by 7NEWS, Patti said:
“He got through the operation. It was huge and a very big day for everybody.
“He had a choice and his choice was to live.”
“His words were: ‘Let’s do this with a positive attitude.’”
Earlier entertainment reporter Peter Ford told 3AW:
“Bert was given the ultimatum: ‘You only have a couple of months to live, but if you have this operation and we amputate your leg you could have many years ahead.’”
“So that was the choice and Bert obviously chose to stick around.”
