In what’s being called an “unprecedented crackdown”, four popular rides have been banned from the Royal Adelaide Show.

The Beast, Speed 2, Extreme and Triple XL will all not be allowed to operate when the show starts on Friday.

Last year, the same rides were able to run despite Safework Australia issuing them with improvement notices for not having a fail-safe double-locking device on their harnesses.

“The ride operators appealed (in 2018) which they’re quite entitled to do through our legislation and by the time that appeal process ended, the show had finished and they’d gone,” said Martyn Campbell, of Safework SA.

South Australia’s regulations are tougher than other states, where the same rides are still allowed to operate.
