The clean-up is underway in Port Augusta after torrential rain hit the SA town on Wednesday afternoon.

21mm of rain fell in the 30 minutes to 4:25pm. By Thursday morning 39.6mm had fallen.

An SES spokesperson said about 100 calls for assistance had been received as a result of the “one in 10-year weather event”:

“The calls were dominantly about water coming in through the ceiling or minor flooding in through doors and low lying areas,” the spokesperson said.

“We had some ceilings collapse in houses and also in a Woolworths and a service station.”

Adelaide dodged the worst of the weather, recording 7mm of rain by Thursday morning.
