State Coordinator and Police Commissioner Grant Stevens has declared River Murray flood levels in SA a major emergency.

According to SAPOL:

The Major Emergency relates to flooding within the River Murray region. This declaration will remain in force for an initial period of 14 days.

The declaration enables authorised officers to utilise a range of authorities not normally available to them and supports the high level of coordination that is already occurring between all emergency services and other agencies.

Members of the public are advised to stay updated on the flood situation by visiting SA.GOV.AU – River Murray flood (www.sa.gov.au)

Water flows are expected to peak at 175 gigalitres per day from early next month. A second peak is now also expected in late December or January.
