Firefighters are working to quell a smouldering rubbish fire at a recycling depot in Adelaide and have warned residents to stay indoors and shut all windows as smoke drifts across the area.
The Metropolitan Fire Service issued a warning early on Tuesday that the fire at Adelaide Resource Recovery on Hanson Road in Wingfield was causing smoke to drift in a southeasterly direction crossing the Port River Expressway.
“Members of the public are advised to stay indoors and shut all doors and windows until the smoke passes.”
A fire service spokesman told AAP that the fire could burn for days.
He said Environment Protection Authority officers are on site and their air testing had not raised any concerns about toxicity from the smoke.
At the same time, a night of wild weather has caused power outages affecting more than 15,000 properties across Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula, as well as transformer outages affecting traffic lights in the western suburbs, reports the ABC.
