A Westfield plan to charge for car parking at its Tea Tree Plaza shopping centre has been slammed as “outrageous”.

Speaking with FIVEAA’s Breakfast’s David & Will on Friday, opposition leader Peter Malinauskas said he was “appalled” by the move.

“It makes you angry,” Mr Malinauskas said. “$35 a day, $170 a week to a person working in retail that’s a pretty big slug.

“I don’t know if Westfield have noticed but we do have an economic crisis on our hands at the moment. It hardly seems like the right time to be hitting an industry that has really felt the pain of coronavirus… I think it’s particularly outrageous.”

Meanwhile local retail union secretary Josh Peak called the decision a “disgraceful money grab”.
