Hundreds of thousands of Melbourne residents in 36 suburbs are again in lockdown as the city battles to contain an outbreak of coronavirus.
Locals in hotspots around the city began four weeks of stay-at-home directives after midnight last night.
Wednesday marked the fifth consecutive day of more than 40 new cases of COVID-19 and the 15th straight day of a double-digit increase.
Residents in the postcodes 3038, 3064, 3047, 3060, 3012, 3032, 3055, 3042, 3021 and 3046 have been told not to leave home except for four key reasons.
They are for work or school, to seek or give care, for essential shopping and for exercise.
Fines have been threatened for residents breaking the health order.
