Port Adelaide has confirmed premiership players Jarrad Schofield and Brett Montgomery will return to the club as assistant coaches while Woodville West Torrens coach Michael Godden will join Adelaide.

AFC’s Brett Burton said of Godden’s appointment:

“Michael has been a successful coach with Woodville West Torrens for a number of years and brings a wealth of experience and positive attributes to our Club.

“He drives high standards, is an outstanding leader and communicator and we’re confident his coaching experience can help our midfield group in 2019.”

Meanwhile Montgomery told portadelaidefc.com.au:

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to coach again at the highest level but it just means that little bit more when you’re able to coach at a club that you’ve played at and love and feel a passion for,” he said.

“I’m really excited about the opportunity to work under Ken.

“I can’t wait to get in and give him whatever assistance he needs and then just connect with the other coaches and the players, I can’t wait to get stuck into it.”

And Schofield said he was likewise thrilled to be heading to back to the club where he won a flag as a player in 2004.

“When I spoke to other clubs at the end of 2017 I felt like I had unfinished business with Subiaco but now the time is right,” Schofield said.

“I’ve been very fortunate to coach a strong group of self-driven players and I couldn’t have asked for a better script to end my time at a club where I played my football as a junior.

“Coming back to Port Adelaide is very exciting for me because the club gave me so much during my career and I am eager to give something back.

“I am looking forward to meeting and working with Ken and the other coaches.”
