After Adelaide FC’s contentious pre-season training camp was cleared by the AFL’s integrity unit, Graham Cornes is wondering where the camps critics have suddenly gone.

“So where are the apologies and the retractions?” Cornesy writes in The Advertiser.

“Having endured criticism, ridicule and a season of torment from elements of the media and football public who were desperate to find fault and scandal, the Adelaide Football Club was finally exonerated by the AFL Integrity Unit.

“Never has a training camp produced so much criticism — ridicule even — over allegations that were false, fabricated, distorted and exaggerated…

“It is true that the club could have handled it better. There could have been more openness in response to the constant barrage of falsehoods, but in the end that strategy of ‘never complain, never explain’ was justified.

“The issues that were deemed as serious were nothing more than minor irritations.”
